Angelo sighed. His new Horsea had developed a habit of squirting him with water when it was happy, and by this time he was thoroughly soaked. At least it kept him cooled off. He brushed his wet bangs out of his face as he walked through the plain.
Horsea had refused to go back into its Pokeball, and it couldn't really walk that well, so Angelo let the little guy ride on his shoulder. After a little while, he stopped walking and looked around. The grass in the plain grew quite oddly here.

A furious roar came from a nearby bush, and sparks were shot everywhere. ~Ee-lec-trike!~ came a cry. A tough-looking Electrike emerged. It lowered its head abd growled madly, more sparks crakling in its fur.

Angelo nimbly jumped back as the Electrike came out of the bushes in a shower of sparks. "Crap, Horsea wouldn't stand a chance against that thing." He muttered. Despite hearing this, Horsea jumped off of Angelo's shoulder and fired a Bubble attack at the Electrike. Well, if he wants to battle, I guess I should let him. Besides, the sooner he evolves into Seadra, the better. Angelo thought.

Elecktrike didn't seem too harmed by the attack. It shook itself dry, then launched into a Tackle.

Horsea jumped sideways out of the Electrike's path. "Horsea, use Smokescreen!" Angelo shouted. Now, when a Water Pokemon uses Smokescreen, it's usually underwater and it usually shoots out a jet of ink to cloud the water. So you'd think it wouldn't really work on land. But then, Angelo is very clever and knows how to use seemingly ineffective moves to his advantage. Horsea sent out its little ink jet- specifically aiming towards the Electrike's eyes.

Elecktrike yelped, confused, as the attack blinded it. It shot a Spark attack, although it was in the wrong direction.

Angelo smirked. He might decide to catch this Electrike, should he feel like it. "Now use Bubble." Horsea shot out a long stream of bubbles towards the blinded Electrike.

Elecktrike heard the command, and span round furiously, trying to see where the attack was. Too late. It hit from behind, sending it slamming headfirst into a tree. Ouch. It shakily got up. The Smokescreen has been whipped from its face by the tree's spindly braches, but it would be easy to defeat it anyway.

"Again." Angelo said calmly, and Horsea shot a stream of bubbles at the Electrike again.

Elecktrike was struck once more. It fell, then got back up. But then it fainted. The battle's over!
Elecktrike is catchable! Horsea gained a level!

Angelo took a Pokeball out of his bag and tossed it towards the Electrike. He'd probably just trade it anyway. Horsea did an odd but cute little dance to celebrate its leveling up.

Angelo walked over and picked up the Pokeball, smirking. It wasn't an Ice type, but it got him the PokeDex data for Electrike. He took out the 'Dex and looked at Electrike's page.
"Electrike, the Lightning Pokemon. Using electricity stored in its fur, Electrike stimulates its muscles to heighten its reaction speed." Said the 'Dex in a mechanical voice.
"Hmph." Angelo grunted, then called to Horsea. "Horsea, let's get moving." The little Pokemon immediately hopped over to Angelo and onto his shoulder, and the two set off once more, this time with a new ally.

Little did the pair no, but a set of gleaming red eyes were watching them from a bush. They froze, thinking it had been seen. Then it darted ahead, causing the bush to rustle rather violently.

Angelo turned sharply upon hearing the bushes rustle so loudly. There was another Pokemon nearby. Either that, or some crazy bug catcher of a trainer. Well, there wasn't really any need to go looking for it. For all Angelo knew, it could be some huge mega Pokemon that Horsea would never be able to defeat. It would probably come out anyway to attack them. "Horseeeea," Horsea squeaked. It heard the bushes rustling, too, and it was afraid. "Don't worry, if it attacks, we can always run if it's too much for you to handle." Said Angelo.
