Clara nervously made her way to the run down looking building in front of her on the path. It this the right place? she wondered to herself, thinking that the lab should've looked a little more... well... majestic. She sighed, knowing she had followed her mother's directions to a T. This must be it then, she thought, making her way up the steps to the tall doors. Before she knocked, a flood of memories washed over her. All the good times she had with Pokémon, and now one is going to be hers forever.
She approached the door timidly, almost shaking out of anxiousness. What if he doesn't like me? she though, referring to the professor. WAIT. What if IT doesn't like me?! Her thoughts turned to the Pokémon. Well, I'm about to find out. She raised her trembling fist to the door and knocked, hardly touching the door. Then she waited.

Professor Maple causiously opened the door, then smiled and flung it fully open. Mia the Arcanine moved swiftly along, three Pokeballs held in her jaws. She set them down on a table and anxiously pawed at the professor's feet.
"Later, Mia." he mumbled, nudging the tiger away. "Now, how can I help you? What Pokemon do you have in mind?" he asked, turning to face Clara.

Clara exhaled slowly. She looked at the majestic Arcanine that took up residence in the lab and suddenly felt very small, for lack of a better word. Forgetting all her well thought out plans of which Pokémon she would pick, curiosity got the best of her. "Well, sir, she started timidly, eying the three Pokéballs resting on the table, "I'd rather like to see what was in those pokéballs." She gestured towards where the Arcanine sat.
I wonder if they're what I'm looking for... she thought, envisioning a loyal, strong Pokémon that would aid her in her journey.

From the three Pokeballs emerged a Skitty, Shinx and Hoothoot. Maple walked over to them and picked up Skitty, who seemed to want to pick on the Hoothoot. "It's fine if you don't want any of these, I assume you have plans to take something else. Honestly, we just returned from catching these, and boy are they annoying." he said with a smile. He wondered what this trainer would take; Absol? Pooshyena? Bulbasaur?

Clara agreed that those three Pokémon were not really her type. She thought about which Pokémon she would want to meet before choosing her partner. She weighed her options carefully and came up with a list of ones she would tell the professor. Speaking thoughtfully, she said, "Excuse me Professor, I think I'd like to meet all the Absols, Houndours, and Vulpixes in your lab." She knew that personality was just as important as the type of Pokémon itself.

"Certainately." In a burst of bright red light, four more Pokemon now stood in the room. An Absol, two Houndours and a Vulpix.
Absol studied the newbie, then, considering it nothing, resumed licking it's paw. Urgh. They woke me up for this? it though to itself grumpily.
Houndour cousiously approached Clara, gently tapping her show with its paw before yelping and running off to cower behind a table leg. The other Houndour, considerably larger than the average Houndour. It rolled its eyes, walking over and dragging it mate back into the open with an evil smile while it shivered and covered its face with its paws.
Vulpix had a different take on the trainer. Walking gracefully up to her, it looked her directly in the eye. Its intelligent gaze was that of longing.

Clearly three of the four Pokémon showed no interested in her. Clara was mildly offended by their behavior. "How rude," she thought, "they could have at least given me a chance..." She looked slightly hurt. "No matter," she muttered to herself, turning her attention to the one that did seem interested in her. The little vulpix that sat in front of her was different. It had such a wise look in it's eyes, she could tell this one was special. She knelt down the the adorable little creature, holding her hand out to the Pokémon in greeting.

Vulpix instinctively shook it. Its paw was warm and velvet, and a smile spread across its pointed face. Maybe this was it... going on an adventure!
Maple laughed. "Good to see you're getting on well with Vulpix. Is this the Pokemon you'd like to take as your starter?" he asked, receiving an eager nod from the fox.

Clara looked at the little fox with excitement in her eyes. This is it, she thought, this is the one I've been looking for! She scooped the little fox into her arms, cuddling it close to her chest. Then she turned towards the professor with a wide grin. "Yes Professor, this is definitely the one I'd like to take with me."

Vulpix squealed with pleasure as it was lifted high. Enjoying the warmth of Clara's body as it was hugged, it licked her face happily.
Maple smiled. He simply loved it when trainer and Pokemon got along this well.
Clara recieved her starter!

Clara giggled at the tiny fox Pokémon and held her close. "I think I'll call you Kira," she decided, smiling at her new companion. She thanked the professor and made her way towards the door, already beginning to imagine all the adventures she would have with her friend by her side.
