Clara inhaled deeply and the cool, autumn air filled her lungs. She absolutely adored the outdoors, and was so glad that she was able to start her journey with a stroll with her new companion. The sky was darkening, and the smell of rain drifted in her nostrils. Guess I should be expecting a storm... she thought, looking up at the layer of clouds covering the normally clear blue sky. But it didn't dampen her mood, she was overwhelmed with joy to finally be out in the wild with just her wits and her Pokémon to guide her.
Reaching down onto her belt, she unattached a small, red and white ball. Pressing the button in the center, it grew to fill her hand and she smiled. She'd been waiting for this moment practically her entire life. A flash of red light appeared as the ball split through the middle, releasing a small orange fox-like Pokémon. She squealed happily, bounding around Clara with much too much energy.
"Kira!" Clara giggled, scooping the Vulpix up in her arms. "Be careful, you don't know what's out there! Better safe than sorry for the first part of the journey."
~Sorry, Clara-mine.~ Vulpix dropped her head shamefully. Clara burst out laughing at the poor fox and gave her a scratch on the head. Kira licked her face as they started down the path of Route One.

~Chika?~ Some Chikorita padded softly down the route, stopping every now and then to chew slowly on a berry or stick their heads in a potential shelter. It froze when it saw Clara.
~Are y-you friendly? Can you help us? We need to find a shelter so I can hibernate. It's t-to cold!~ one said, glancing over it's shoulder at the five or so leaf Pokemon behind it.
Another one growled. ~I say we let her help us, and then we see if she's worthy or not.~ all the others nodded in agreement, watching the trainer intently.

Clara knelt down beside the friendlier little Chikorita. "Hi there, I'm Clara. I'll try to help you as best I can." She stood up and began to look through the forest to find a shelter for the poor Pokémon. She searched in and out while Kira was getting to know the other Chikorita.
~Hello,~ she said cautiously. ~I'm Kira, Clara's Vulpix. Can I help you out any?~ Sticking out her nose, she sniffed the Chikorita as a form of greeting.

The second Chikorita tossed its leaf. Looking behind it, it nodded. ~I guess. We call ourselves names to make it easier, so you might want to use them too. This is Doku, Ray, Mimi, Fari, and I'm Sowey.~ it introduced the Chikorita who had spoken first first, then the others. Well, it seemed they had watched too much The Sound of Music. Take away a few of the letters, and you would get Do, Ray, Mi, Far and So. Interesting. But one of the Chikorita didn't have a name. Also interesting.
Doku pushed forward. ~You can't go about talking to humans, they might disrupt the pack!~ it hissed, cuffing Sowey.
Sowey glared at Doku. ~I'm the leader, you can't push me around!~ it screamed angrily, tugging Doku's leaf.
Doku yelled in pain. ~B-but I thought we said we were all equal! We should all help protect each other, especially from humans!~ it cried out, not retaliating. It seemed Sowey was fighting for power while Doku was fighting for safety. Good always wins- right?
Ray, the smallest of the group, ran forward. ~STOP! No fighting. We just want to get help. Vulpix, sorry. Perhaps we could do with some help even from a trainer.~ it said, big chocolate brown eyes blinking as it fondled Vulpix' soft fur.
